IN-SITU MACHINING OF NEWLY ENGINEERED COMPONENTS

During the fabrication of many new components the welding process will always cause warping and distortion throughout the component even if a jig is used. This can cause considerable misalignment of any pin bores within the component. The best way to overcome this problem is to fabricate the component keeping the pin bore diameters undersize by 5mm-10mm depending on the amount of distortion due to weld. After the component has cooled down or subsequently been sent for stress relieving, the pin bores can then be line bored true after setting up to the datum point.

FAQ’s

WHAT IS IN-SITU MACHINING?

During the fabrication of many new components the welding process will always cause warping and distortion throughout the component even if a jig is used. This can cause considerable misalignment of any pin bores within the component.

For example if you have a large shaft in a piece of plant or equipment this means that there is no need for it to be stripped down and no need for it to be rotated. Our in-situ machining process will enable shaft repairs to take place without shaft rotation providing there is sufficient access.

This leads to substantial time and cost savings in most cases as there is no need to arrange for transport of large or labour intensive components to a workshop. “On Site”, “In Place” or “In-Situ” machining means the workshop comes to you.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF IN-SITU MACHINING?

By performing our services on-site, considerable savings can be made by eliminating costs and additional downtime associated with the disassembly and removal, logistics, transport and re-installation of the machinery or equipment.
